Reed Elsevier provides information-driven services and solutions to a host of partners and clients around the world. Their Corporate Auditing Group is tasked with a critical “dual role” across the entire corporate enterprise: assurance/compliance and consulting/performance. In order to help the corporation as a whole, the group must work with business units inside the company in ways that might make life (in the short term) more difficult for some of those units. Given this challenge, CBI spent a day with the group delivering a curriculum that offered opportunities to practice negotiations in the context of ongoing internal business relationships and to discuss the challenges and issues that can arise when “strategic” (adaptive) conflict is brought about by competing organizational needs.
