Ida Koppen is Vice-President of the Sustainability Challenge Foundation [1]. She is a registered civil mediator in the Canton of Geneva (tableau de médiateurs civils). Her work focuses on conflict management, facilitation and mediation in the context of sustainable development. She works locally, nationally and internationally. She alternates executive training programmes with academic teaching.
She is permanent facilitator of the ENCORE network [2] (Environmental Conference of the Regions of Europe) and of the Network of European Regions on Education for Sustainability [3].
Together with Valentin Yemelin, she teaches Negotiation Skills and Techniques for the UNEP/University of Geneva/Graduate Institute Certificate of Advanced Studies in Environmental Diplomacy.
She was trained as an environmental scientist (BA Environmental Studies, Honors College, University of Oregon) and as an environmental lawyer (JD University of Amsterdam). She did post-graduate research at the European University Institute in Florence and at the Harvard-MIT Public Disputes Program (Fulbright Visiting Scholar), specialising in environmental mediation and consensus building. In 1994, she set up a consulting practice in Italy, opening a second office in Geneva in 2003.
