School Construction
Assessing School Reconstruction with the Bureau of Indian Education
The Federal government’s Bureau of Indian Affairs funds 184 schools serving 238 tribes. Dissatisfaction with the large backlog of school facility deficiencies and the current process for managing it led Congress to call for changes. Based on a comprehensive assessment of stakeholders involving over 200 interviews, CBI recommended that the Department of Interior move forward to convene a Negotiated Rulemaking to develop new formulas for priority and funding for school replacement construction, new school construction, and school renovation and repair.
